The first phase of ticket sales for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has opened, offering Visa cardholders an exclusive opportunity to participate in a presale draw for match tickets. The tournament, set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature 48 teams and is expected to be the largest in FIFA history.

The Visa Presale Draw began on Wednesday, Sept. 10, and will close at 11:00 a.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 19. To enter the draw, individuals must hold a valid Visa debit card, credit card, or reloadable prepaid card enabled with 3D Secure. According to FIFA's website: "In order to enter the draw, you must be the cardholder (primary or secondary) in good standing of a valid, unexpired Visa debit card, credit card, or reloadable prepaid card enabled with 3D Secure."

The process requires participants to join a virtual queue and complete a captcha before submitting their information for consideration in the randomized selection process. Entry time does not impact chances of being selected.

Several contributors from The Points Guy attempted to enter the draw with varying experiences; some encountered technical issues such as timing out or error messages during sign-in. One editor successfully entered using her Visa card information.

After the draw concludes on Sept. 19, selected entrants will be notified via email on or after Sept. 29 with instructions and an assigned time slot to purchase tickets beginning Oct. 1. Available options include single-match tickets starting at $60 for group-stage games as well as venue-specific and team-specific ticket packages.

Those who do not have an eligible Visa card or are unsuccessful in this phase will have additional opportunities in subsequent phases:

- Phase 2 ("Early Ticket Draw") will operate similarly but without requiring a Visa card; registration is scheduled for Oct. 27-31.

- Phase 3 ("Random Selection Draw") begins after the tournament’s Final Draw on Dec. 5.

- Remaining tickets closer to the event will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

- FIFA also plans to launch an official resale platform later this year.

Fans are encouraged to register for a FIFA ID at https://www.fifa.com/tickets/ in order to participate in future ticketing phases and receive updates.
