Delta Air Lines will introduce a new daily service between Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Miami International Airport (MIA) starting November 22, 2025. The route will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft and marks another step in Delta’s ongoing expansion in Austin.

This move puts Delta in direct competition with American Airlines, which already offers up to three daily flights between Austin and Miami. Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines also serve this route, with Southwest operating five weekly flights and Frontier three per week. Cirium data indicates that American plans to increase its AUS-MIA frequencies to as many as four daily next year using both Boeing 737s and Airbus A319s.

"Miami is American's third-busiest hub, while the carrier is also the third largest in Austin behind Southwest and Delta, offering up to three daily services between the two cities."

Delta has increased its passenger numbers in Austin by 12% year-on-year, while American Airlines has seen a 16% decrease over the same period. Delta surpassed American as Austin’s second-largest airline this summer. In addition to the new Miami service, Delta recently announced nonstop routes from Austin to Denver (starting November), Columbus, and Kansas City (both launching June 2026). The airline is also planning new flights this year to Palm Springs in November and international destinations Cancun and Cabo San Lucas in December. Additional frequencies are scheduled for San Francisco and Indianapolis next summer.

"With its new flight attendant base opening in Austin next month, a new pilot base is also in the works after Delta eclipsed American as Austin's second-largest carrier this summer."

Delta is expanding facilities at AUS by doubling the size of its temporary Sky Club next year using space formerly occupied by an American Admirals Club. There are future plans for a permanent Sky Club of about 35,000 square feet set for completion by 2031.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport itself is undergoing significant changes through a $4 billion expansion plan that includes development of Concourse B. This project aims to double airport capacity from 15 million to 30 million passengers annually with an initial addition of 20 gates that could later rise to 40 gates.

"Delta has long targeted development in Austin and recently laid out its ambitions to reach up to 150 daily flights by 2031. The airline is targeting 15 preferred gates and two lounges in the airport's new concourse, as well as growing its local workforce from a few hundred today to around 2,800 employees."

Southwest Airlines currently holds about a 40% market share at AUS—making it the largest carrier at the airport—and hopes to acquire eight more gates on Concourse B for further growth toward operating over 200 flights from Austin within several years.

"Austin-Bergstrom will be significantly boosting its capacity in the next few years as part of a $4 billion expansion plan, and negotiations for usage rights with airlines are underway."

Delta’s network at AUS now approaches service to nearly thirty destinations.
