A year after the National Human Rights Commission of India called for an investigation into alleged labor law violations at an Amazon warehouse near New Delhi, a new survey from UNI Global Union finds that many Amazon workers in India still experience unsafe working conditions due to extreme heat.
The survey, conducted by UNI Global Union in June and July 2025, gathered responses from 474 Amazon warehouse and delivery workers across India. According to the findings, three out of four workers reported that they or a coworker needed medical attention because of heat exposure. Workers described incidents such as fainting on the job, being denied medical care after suffering heat-related illness, and experiencing retaliation for raising safety concerns. More than half of those surveyed characterized their workplaces as either “extremely hot and unsafe” or “unbearable.”
“The 2024 heatwave was a warning, and one year later our survey shows little has changed,” said Christy Hoffman, General Secretary of UNI Global Union. “No worker should be forced to risk their health – or their life – for Amazon’s bottom line. Heat protections must be enforceable, and workers themselves must have a say in setting the standards.”
