FedEx has opened a new 19,000 square foot freight facility at East Midlands Airport in the United Kingdom. The facility is separate from the company’s existing parcel sorting operations and aims to improve freight handling efficiency and connectivity for customers shipping goods to the United States, European Union, Asia-Pacific region, and other international destinations.
The site includes multiple trailer docks and recessed building pits to enhance safety during freight handling. The added capacity is expected to increase throughput and help FedEx respond to rising customer demand along key international trade routes.
Steve Johnson, Managing Director of UK Air Operations at FedEx, stated: “This new freight facility builds on the momentum of our recent expansion in Manchester and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthening our operations across the UK. Together, these commitments create a more resilient and connected FedEx network, enabling us to support the increasing flow of goods between the East Midlands, the Northwest, and international markets. For businesses in the East Midlands, the additional capacity and enhanced safety features mean more efficient access to the U.S., APAC, EU, and beyond – helping them seize growth opportunities in a rapidly evolving global trade environment.”
