Korean Air and Boeing have announced a partnership aimed at advancing predictive maintenance for the airline’s fleet. The agreement was signed on September 17 during the MRO Asia-Pacific 2025 Conference in Singapore.

Korean Air, which operates more than 100 Boeing aircraft and has additional planes on order, will work with Boeing to analyze operational data across its fleet. The goal is to forecast component health, enhance operational readiness, maximize aircraft availability, and reduce both maintenance costs and flight disruptions.

"Korean Air has made substantial progress in enhancing fleet reliability through our Smart MRO strategy, specifically by leveraging predictive maintenance. This strategic collaboration with Boeing will build on that success, taking our capabilities to the next level," said Chan Woo Jung, Senior Vice President and Head of Maintenance and Engineering at Korean Air.

The airline established a dedicated Predictive Maintenance Team in August 2023 and currently uses an in-house developed solution for operational monitoring. In addition to working with Boeing, Korean Air collaborates with other manufacturers such as Airbus and Collins Aerospace for predictive maintenance technologies.

Boeing brings engineering expertise and technical operations software to the partnership. Korean Air’s experience managing a diverse fleet—including 110 Boeing aircraft—will support efforts to integrate new technologies and define best practices for next-generation maintenance operations.

Recently, Korean Air committed to purchasing 103 new Boeing jets—a deal that represents its largest-ever order and includes models such as the 737-10s, 787-10s, 777-9s, and the first order for the 777-8 Freighter. This order will also be Boeing’s largest widebody sale from an Asian carrier.

The airline continues to expand partnerships beyond Boeing. For example, it uses Collins Aerospace’s Ascentia Prognostic and Health Management (PHM) solution on its Boeing 787s—a cloud-based system that applies advanced analytics to improve maintenance efficiency. Korean Air also utilizes Airbus’ Skywise Predictive Maintenance + (S.PM+) and Skywise Health Monitoring (S.HM) solutions across its Airbus fleet; these digital tools are designed to anticipate failures before they happen.

Through these collaborations with multiple manufacturers—including recent agreements covering all Airbus types operated by Korean Air—the company aims to further extend predictive maintenance capabilities across its entire mixed fleet.
