Etihad Airways has announced that starting June 12, 2026, it will introduce four weekly direct flights to Damascus, Syria. These flights will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft.

According to TravelRadar, the new route will feature four weekly flights offering eight Business Class seats and 150 Economy seats. The flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This choice of aircraft reflects Etihad's strategy to balance fuel efficiency with passenger comfort on mid-range regional routes.

This development marks Etihad's return to Damascus after a 14-year suspension of service. AviationWeek reports that flights to Syria were halted in 2012 due to conflict and instability. The resumption of service is seen as a significant milestone in re-establishing aviation links to the region and demonstrates growing confidence in travel demand between the UAE and Syria.

The new service aims to enhance Abu Dhabi’s role as a transfer hub by connecting travelers from Damascus to Etihad’s global network. As explained by Travel Daily Media, Zayed International Airport will serve as a key gateway for passengers traveling beyond the UAE, with connections available to Asia, Europe, and North America. This initiative supports tourism and strengthens family, cultural, and trade links between Syria and the wider world.

Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, headquartered in Abu Dhabi. It is one of the Middle East’s largest carriers. According to Wikipedia, Etihad operates a fleet of over 100 Airbus and Boeing aircraft flying to more than 120 destinations across six continents. The decision to add Damascus underscores its strategy of reconnecting underserved regional markets while maintaining its reputation for premium service and global connectivity.
