Roberto Alvo, CEO LATAM Airlines Group | LATAM Airlines Group

LATAM Airlines Group has placed an order with Embraer for up to 74 E195-E2 regional jets, consisting of 24 firm orders and options for 50 additional aircraft. Deliveries are set to begin in the second half of 2026. The deal is valued at $2.1 billion for the firm orders.

The agreement marks a significant step for LATAM as it seeks to strengthen its domestic and regional operations across South America. Embraer stated that the order "underscores the LATAM Group’s ongoing investment in strengthening its domestic and regional operations, building on steady and profitable growth achieved over the past four years."

LATAM plans to use these new aircraft both to launch new routes and increase frequencies on existing ones. Since 2021, LATAM's network has expanded by 24%, growing from 129 to 160 destinations. Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group, commented: "The LATAM Group’s decision is based on the excellent economics and versatility of the Embraer E195-E2, which will allow us to continue on our path of profitable growth by enhancing that connectivity through the opening of new destinations, allowing our passengers to have even more options and bringing communities closer, boosting also economic and social development."

Prior to this announcement, LATAM had not operated any Embraer commercial jets despite its strong presence in South America and Embraer's status as the region's largest aircraft manufacturer. In August 2025, Simple Flying reported that LATAM Brazil was considering both Airbus A220s and Embraer E2s for fleet expansion.

Currently, LATAM's fleet is mainly composed of Airbus narrowbody aircraft. Its widebody fleet includes three leased Airbus A330s from Wamos Air, nine Boeing 767s, ten Boeing 777s, and thirty-seven Boeing 787s—making up about 17.6% of its total fleet of 335 jets.

The E195-E2 is described by Embraer as combining competitive seat costs with superior fuel efficiency and improved passenger comfort due to its four-abreast seating configuration. As of July 21, 2025, there were 330 orders for this model worldwide. The company claims that "the aircraft delivers up to 30% lower fuel consumption per seat compared to previous-generation models," attributing these gains to advanced aerodynamics and Pratt & Whitney GTF engines.

The introduction of these jets is expected to support further network growth while providing operational efficiencies for LATAM.
