Passengers traveling from Boston Logan International Airport may soon have a new way to get through security more quickly. A pilot program is set to launch at the Logan Express station in Framingham, allowing passengers to clear a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint before boarding the bus to the airport, as first reported by The Boston Globe.

The process would involve travelers passing through TSA screening and having their checked bags labeled at a temporary trailer located in an overflow parking lot for the bus service. Once cleared, they would be transported directly to the "airside" area of Terminal A — which serves Delta Air Lines and WestJet — as well as Terminal C, home to JetBlue and connected to other terminals B and E.

Logan Express is operated by Massport and offers routes between several locations in the greater Boston area and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), with departures every 30 to 60 minutes. Tickets range from $3 to $9 when purchased online ahead of time.

During the trial period, one bus will depart hourly over a four- or five-hour window each morning. Up to 35 passengers per bus can reserve tickets in advance for this presecurity experience. If successful, Massport could expand the program to additional Logan Express lines serving Braintree, Woburn, and Boston Seaport.

A Massport executive explained that the initiative aims "to encourage more travelers to use public transit by enticing them with an easier and more relaxed security experience." Reducing reliance on private vehicles or ride-hailing services could help ease congestion around BOS.

While this approach appears unique among U.S. airports, there are similar programs elsewhere. For example, American Airlines' Landline bus service from Atlantic City allows passengers heading to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to go through security before boarding their connecting bus; however, that service requires travelers' bus rides be booked as part of their flight itineraries. In contrast, the BOS program operates independently of any specific flight booking.

According to a presentation slide shared with The Points Guy by Massport, final approval from TSA is still required for staffing the new checkpoint.
