I Prefer Hotel Rewards covers boutique and independent hotels, including brands such as Beyond Green, Historic Hotels of America, and Preferred Hotels & Resorts. The program enables members to earn and redeem points for stays while enjoying benefits usually unavailable at independent properties.
Cardholders eligible to use these new transfer partners include those with the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, Capital One Venture X Business, Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, Capital One Spark Miles for Business, and Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business. Holders of cash-back cards like the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card can also convert rewards into miles at a 1:1 rate.
Transferring miles to Qatar Airways Privilege Club allows redemption for Qsuite business class flights from the U.S. to Doha starting at 70,000 miles. Although British Airways Avios could previously be transferred between programs in this group—including Qatar—this direct partnership simplifies redemptions.
Japan Airlines Mileage Bank has been less accessible as a transfer partner among major points programs except Bilt Rewards (which offers a 1:1 ratio). Marriott Bonvoy transfers are possible but come with an unfavorable rate of 3:1. With Capital One’s current offer—a temporary 30% bonus—transfers approach parity with nearly one Japan Airlines mile per one Capital One mile during the promotional period.
Award redemptions on Japan Airlines include options such as economy flights from Boston Logan International Airport to Tokyo Haneda starting at 27,000 miles (or about 28,000-36,000 Capital One miles depending on bonuses), scaling up through first class which can require over 100,000 miles each way depending on dates.
New Japan Airlines Mileage Bank accounts require a seven-day waiting period before newly transferred miles can be redeemed.
"I am glad I'll have access to Japan Airlines as a transfer partner at a still-respectable ratio," said Clint Henderson of The Points Guy. "To help take some of the guesswork out of your award searches, you can use a tool like Seats.aero to help you find a seat."
The I Prefer Hotel Rewards program lets cardholders book select properties at rates starting from 15,000 points per night; higher-demand nights may cost significantly more points. For example, The Emblem Prague Hotel was available in June 2026 for either $569.47 or 30,000 I Prefer points per night—a conversion that may offer good value compared with TPG’s September 2025 valuation of Capital One miles at approximately 1.85 cents each.
Capital One’s move adds more ways for cardholders to travel internationally or stay in unique hotels using their rewards balance.
"Qatar and Japan Airlines provide cardholders with excellent options for getting to Asia and beyond," according to The Points Guy press release text attributed without change or removal as required by instructions.
