Miles & More, the loyalty program operated by Lufthansa Group, has introduced a new incentive for customers to fly more sustainably. The program now awards additional miles and Points to members who purchase CO2-offsetting packages. These packages allow travelers to offset their flight-related carbon emissions through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and contributions to climate projects supported by the Lufthansa Group.

Since 2023, members have been able to earn extra rewards when booking flights with the Green Fares tariff. This benefit is now extended to those who opt for CO2-offsetting packages, which can also be redeemed using previously earned miles. According to the company, this move aims to encourage more sustainable travel choices among customers.

The offsetting offers include full compensation for individual flight emissions. The number of additional Points awarded depends on the share of SAF chosen in the package—up to 80 percent more Points and Qualifying Points, and up to 20 percent more HON Circle Points can be earned compared with standard bookings. Members may also receive up to six miles per euro spent on these packages, helping them achieve frequent flyer status or desired rewards faster.

Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer at Lufthansa Group, said: “We want to further raise awareness among our customers for more sustainable flying. Our goal is to respond to our passengers' wishes with a wide range of offers and to provide them with attractive benefits. By choosing to make their flights more sustainable, Miles & More members can benefit from additional miles and Points and achieve their status or desired award faster. With our numerous offers for more sustainable flying, we at the Lufthansa Group are global pioneers.”

Customers can book CO2-offsetting packages during flight reservations, before departure in their personal booking area, or after travel via airline websites or the Miles & More app. Retroactive crediting is available for packages booked since January 2025.

Both Green Fares and CO2-offsetting packages enable passengers to address their calculated emissions based on factors such as distance traveled, fuel consumption averages, class of service, and load factor. Currently, nearly five percent of guests choose these options when traveling with Lufthansa Group airlines.

For further details about these sustainability initiatives from Miles & More and Lufthansa Group’s climate efforts visit https://www.miles-and-more.com/de/de/program/flight-benefits/sustainability.html.

SAF used by Lufthansa Group is blended with fossil aviation fuel before being delivered to airports across Europe. The group ensures that within six months of a customer’s purchase of an offset package, an equivalent amount of SAF enters its operations. Over its lifecycle, SAF derived from biogenic residues produces at least 80 percent less CO2 than traditional kerosene.

Lufthansa Group’s climate project portfolio currently includes 18 certified projects managed by providers such as myclimate, Climate Austria, SQUAKE, Ceezer, and ClimatePartner. These projects follow recognized standards like Gold Standard and cover both nature-based solutions and technology-driven approaches—including carbon capture in concrete and biochar removal—to promote long-term reduction of atmospheric CO2.
