American Airlines has introduced a new status match program that allows travelers to not only match their loyalty status from competing airlines but also upgrade to a higher tier within the American Airlines AAdvantage program. The initiative, which runs through October 31, 2025, is part of the airline’s strategy to increase business travel sales.
The program is available to passengers who hold AAdvantage Gold or Platinum-equivalent status with one of nine major airlines: Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Air Canada, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, and Virgin Atlantic. Instead of receiving an equivalent tier in the AAdvantage program, eligible travelers will be matched to the next higher level. For example, Delta SkyMiles Silver Medallion members will be matched to AAdvantage Platinum rather than Gold. Similarly, Delta Gold Medallion members can move up to AAdvantage Platinum Pro instead of just Platinum.
To participate in the status match offer, travelers must provide proof of their current elite status with one of the qualifying airlines. Once verified by email and after review by American Airlines staff, participants will receive confirmation and details about their new AAdvantage status via email. The complimentary matched status lasts for four months. During this period, travelers have the opportunity to extend their elevated status by earning Loyalty Points; meeting certain point thresholds allows them to maintain or even improve their tier through March 31, 2027.
