FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., has started construction on a new regional facility in Bundaberg, Queensland. The site will cover 5,962 square metres and feature an automated conveyor system capable of sorting up to 1,500 packages per hour. Construction is expected to begin soon, with the facility projected to be operational in 2026.

The groundbreaking event was attended by Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn, Natural Resources and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Gary Kirk, and members of the FedEx regional team. The facility aims to address growing demand for express freight services in the area and support local economic development. Its location near an expanding industrial precinct and Bundaberg Airport is intended to improve access for businesses in the Wide Bay-Burnett region to domestic and international shipping services.

Bundaberg has been identified as Queensland's second-fastest-growing local economy with a growth rate of 7.1%. At the start of 2024, its economy was valued at AUD $5.1 billion; its Gross Regional Product is now estimated at $6.08 billion.

The new site will offer express pick-up and delivery services across Bundaberg as well as Gin Gin, Childers, and Biggenden regions. In line with FedEx's global goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040, sustainable features such as energy-efficient LED lighting and skylights will be included in both warehouse and office areas.
