FedEx Freight technicians secure top honors at national TMCSuperTech competition

FedEx Freight technicians achieved top recognition at the 2025 TMCSuperTech competition, which took place in Raleigh, North Carolina from September 14 to 16. The event saw participation from 94 technicians across the country.

Matt Sloan, a senior technician from Jacksonville, Florida, was named the 2025 Grand Champion. Sloan has been with FedEx Freight for 16 years and participated in his twelfth national technician competition this year. He also secured first place in three skills station competitions: Electronic Engine Diagnostics, Electrical Circuits, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Kelby Bentley, another senior technician based in Greensboro, North Carolina, finished second overall. Bentley previously won the SuperTech Grand Champion title in 2019 and has competed nationally six times during his eleven-year tenure at FedEx Freight. This year he earned top scores in RP Manual, Coolants & Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), and Starting & Charging.

In the team category, Philip Barlow of Jacksonville and John Blanchet of Hermiston, Oregon were chosen by their peers to represent FedEx Freight. They claimed the team title as well. Barlow finished eighth overall and is a two-time Medium/Light Duty Champion from previous years; Blanchet placed ninth.

Other FedEx Freight technicians placing in the top ten included Jamie Smith from Cincinnati, Ohio (sixth) and Nick Bryant from Portland, Maine (seventh). Overall, FedEx Freight competitors won more than half of the available skills competitions—15 out of 27.

Additional individual skills station winners included:

- John Blanchet for Roll-up Doors

- Nick Brown of Billings, Montana for Trailer Electrical Corrosion and Fifth Wheel

- Nick Bryant for Trailer Lighting, Trailer Alignment, and Emissions & Aftertreatment

- Mitch Buelow of Fremont, Indiana for Tire & Wheel

- Jamie Smith for Liftgates

- Cory Westfall of Effingham, Illinois for Central Tire Inflation

John A. Smith, chief operating officer for U.S. & Canada at Federal Express Corporation stated: "Our technicians are dedicated to being the best at what they do and our team demonstrated their exceptional skill and knowledge at SuperTech this year.
