Paul Baldoni, S.V.P. - Americas Pricing and Revenue Management | Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines will begin its first nonstop daily service between New York’s JFK Airport and Porto, Portugal (OPO) on May 21, 2026. The new route is part of Delta’s broader expansion across the Atlantic and aims to provide more travel options for customers looking to visit Europe.

Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta, said, “Delta’s new nonstop service from JFK to Porto is part of seven new European routes launching next summer, giving customers even more opportunities to experience Europe and enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience. Whether discovering Portugal or traveling to our other new destinations such as Sardinia and Malta, these additions expand choice for our customers and reinforce JFK’s role as a leading global gateway.”

Porto is known for its location along the Douro River, historic architecture with azulejo-tiled churches, seafood cuisine, and port wine cellars. The city also serves as a starting point for trips into the Douro Valley vineyards or visits to northern Portugal's beaches.

With this addition, Delta expands its existing presence in Portugal. The airline already operates year-round daily flights from New York-JFK to Lisbon and seasonal daily flights from Boston.

Flights will depart from Delta’s hub at JFK Airport, which handles over 200 departures each day to more than 100 destinations.

Karen Strougo, Chief Commercial Officer at ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, stated: “We are proud to welcome one of the world’s leading airlines to Porto. Delta Air Lines’ decision to invest in the Porto Region is a strong endorsement of the growing relevance of this market, which has more than doubled since 2019 and is set to grow over 20% this year alone. This is yet another significant milestone in our efforts to strengthen Porto's position as a gateway to the Northwest Iberian Peninsula.

This new route strengthens Porto’s global connectivity — not only through the direct link to New York-JFK but also via Delta’s vast network. It supports the region’s thriving tourism industry and offers residents an excellent direct link to the U.S. This achievement is the result of a great collaboration between ANA Aeroportos de Portugal – VINCI Airports, Turismo de Portugal, and the Porto Norte Tourism Association, all working together to boost the region’s connections to the world.”

Delta plans further trans-Atlantic growth with additional nonstop services planned next summer—including enhanced flights on existing European routes—and increased frequency between Detroit and Dublin.

Delta will offer four onboard experiences on these international flights: Delta One with lie-flat seats; Delta Premium Select featuring wider seats; Delta Comfort; and Delta Main Cabin. Passengers can expect amenities such as chef-curated meals in premium cabins, entertainment options through Delta Studio across all classes, and free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members provided by T-Mobile.

The launch of this route reflects ongoing collaboration between ANA Aeroportos de Portugal – VINCI Airports and local tourism authorities aimed at improving international access for travelers heading into northwestern Iberia.
