FedEx has opened a new automated logistics center at Tallinn Airport, aiming to strengthen Estonia’s connections with global markets. The facility, located in the cargo zone of the airport, combines air and ground services to support Estonian businesses with access to an efficient logistics network.

The new center is the first transfer terminal on the southern side of Tallinn Airport’s Airport City business complex. Equipped with advanced sorting systems, it can process thousands of shipments daily. With direct links to FedEx’s global network, Estonian entrepreneurs will have quicker access to international markets.

Mariusz Mik, vice president of ground operations for FedEx Europe responsible for Nordic and Eastern European markets, said: "Our latest investment strengthens Estonia's position in global trade. By focusing on speed and efficiency of service, FedEx not only supports the national economy and the growing e-commerce sector but also empowers local entrepreneurs by giving them access to over 220 markets worldwide. In this way, we connect Estonia's culture of innovation with the world."

Tõnu Väät, CEO of the Estonian E-Commerce Association, commented on market growth: "The e-commerce market in Estonia grows by about 20% every year and is already worth 5.2 billion euros. There is certainly still potential for further growth in Estonian exports, especially in the e-commerce sector. However, high logistics costs remain a significant obstacle – volumes are small and transport costs are high." He added: "Any investment by a foreign partner in Estonia—whether it is increasing sorting capacity, warehouse space or means of transport—definitely supports export growth. That is why we welcome the opening of FedEx's new logistics center in Tallinn and hope that it will improve competitiveness in the market and support the development of Estonian e-sellers."

The warehouse area at the new center is more than three times larger than before and was designed to meet both current and future needs of Estonian companies. Its technology can handle up to 3,000 parcels per hour using multi-angle scanning systems that detect dimensions and barcode data from any angle.

The facility has direct access to Tallinn Airport runways; every working day a FedEx aircraft departs for Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport—a gateway for shipments bound for North America and Asia. There is also a direct road connection to FedEx’s main regional hub in Warsaw.

A fully equipped office space supports daily operations within the building. Sustainability features include rooftop solar panels for energy diversification, motion sensor-controlled lighting systems, electric vehicle charging stations on-site parking areas, as well as geothermal-powered heating and cooling pumps.

FedEx has operated in Estonia since 1994 providing tailored logistics solutions domestically and internationally. The opening forms part of a broader investment program across Central-Eastern Europe; recently FedEx restructured or expanded 17 facilities across six countries in this region.

FedEx delivers packages to over 220 markets globally each day—serving more than 2.5 million shippers and reaching 200 million consumers daily with approximately 17 million parcels delivered per day worldwide.
