Hector Nazario, Porter for Flying Food Group | LAWA Board Meet

Hector Nazario, a porter at Flying Food Group, has publicly criticized union representatives for allegedly acting abusively and spreading misinformation. He claimed that these actions have created division among workers and harmed the company's reputation.

"Some people who represent and support the Union Local 11 act in a very rude and abusive way," said Nazario. "Their behavior has created confusion and tension among the workers. Some union members have spread wrong information and made the company look bad. The company's success is important for all of us who support because we support our families with our jobs."

Unite Here Local 11 has been involved in ongoing disputes with Los Angeles airport catering workers, including those at Flying Food Group. Employees have staged strikes and filed unfair labor practice charges over issues related to wages, conditions, and safety. The union has highlighted these conflicts as part of its broader airport campaigns, emphasizing persistent tensions in aviation food service.

According to Unite Here Local 11, worker sentiment toward union representation at Flying Food Group was evident in a 99% strike-authorization vote by more than 350 employees at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on March 15, 2023. The workers, responsible for preparing and delivering in-flight meals for major airlines, voted to walk out over alleged unfair labor practices. This overwhelming margin is said to illustrate strong support for the union’s bargaining position.

Reports on misinformation and conflict in unionized food service workplaces indicate that workers often face confusion about their rights and bargaining processes. Research conducted in California found that employees frequently received misleading information. In response to these challenges, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) reinsaid rules on "blocking charges" in 2024 to address unfair-practice claims during elections.

Nazario works as a porter in the sanitation department at Flying Food Group, a leading airline catering company serving major carriers across the United States. In his role, he supports daily operations by maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, ensuring the company meets strict food safety and service requirements. As part of the frontline team, he contributes to Flying Food Group’s ability to deliver reliable, high-quality meals that sustain its reputation in the competitive airline catering industry.

Flying Food Group was founded in 1983 and is based in Chicago. It is a major airline catering and prepared-foods supplier serving international carriers such as Singapore Airlines, Air France, and Lufthansa. The company employs between 1,000 and 5,000 workers and operates kitchens at major U.S. airports.
