Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has introduced its first electric vehicles into its Colombian fleet as part of a broader strategy to transition to a 100% zero-emission pickup and delivery vehicle fleet worldwide by 2040. The new additions are Ford E-Transit vans, which can travel an estimated 300 kilometers per full charge. These vehicles offer instant torque of 430 Nm and come equipped with pre-collision assistance and a 360-degree camera, aiming to enhance sustainability without sacrificing operational efficiency or safety.

Eduardo Garrido, senior manager of ramp operations and customs for FedEx in Colombia, stated, "In Colombia we are taking concrete steps towards smarter and more sustainable logistics. The incorporation of the Ford E-Transit into our fleet reflects a vision that combines technology, operational efficiency, and environmental commitment. Our goal is to offer solutions that add value to small and medium-sized enterprises in the development of their e-commerce while caring for the environment we share."

Jose Llanos, director of Ford Colombia, commented, "We are proud to be the strategic partner accompanying a global leader like FedEx in its transformation. This work materializes Ford Pro's promise to go beyond the vehicle to deliver productivity. The goal is for each e-Transit to be an always-connected tool, allowing up to a 40% reduction in operating costs. Thus, we help make FedEx's vision of sustainable logistics also the most profitable and efficient."

In addition to these electric vans, FedEx has already implemented other emission-reducing solutions in Colombia such as electric cargo bicycles used in Bogotá and Medellín. These measures help ease traffic congestion and reduce noise pollution in densely populated areas. In the coming months, more Ford E-Transit vans are expected in Bogotá and Medellín as well as their debut in Cali. In Medellín specifically, FedEx aims for full electrification of its main pickup and delivery fleet by year-end.

Midway through 2025, FedEx moved its facilities to a larger station in Sabaneta. This relocation enabled the installation of charging equipment for electric vehicles within the warehouse alongside new sorting technology designed to streamline processes for employees and improve delivery speeds while reducing customer wait times.

Globally, FedEx continues efforts to reduce its operational carbon footprint through practical strategies. According to its recent corporate responsibility report for 2025, the company achieved a year-over-year reduction of 6.1% in direct (Scope 1) emissions due largely to operational efficiencies. During fiscal year 2024, FedEx operated over 8,000 electric vehicles worldwide as it gradually electrifies its pickup and delivery fleet.

FedEx is also integrating circular economy principles into its packaging by encouraging recycling or reuse of resources such as packing materials. Additionally, customers have access to tools like FedEx Sustainability Insights that allow them to track estimated CO2e emissions from most international shipments within the company’s network.
