American Airlines has announced a new partnership with Porter Airlines, a Canadian carrier known for its expanding network and new aircraft. The agreement, revealed on Monday, introduces a codeshare arrangement that allows travelers to earn and redeem American Airlines AAdvantage miles on select Porter flights. Passengers can also accrue Loyalty Points toward elite status.

Under this collaboration, customers will be able to book connections between the two airlines via Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) using American’s website and mobile app. This setup is expected to provide more opportunities for AAdvantage members traveling to Canadian cities such as Halifax, St. John's, and Vancouver.

"Canada is one of the most popular destinations for travelers, and American is excited to partner with Porter Airlines to unlock more travel options for customers," said Anmol Bhargava, American's senior vice president of global alliances.

Porter Airlines has been expanding its service with a fleet of Embraer E195-E2 jets that feature amenities like complimentary Wi-Fi and beverages served in glassware. The airline already maintains a loyalty partnership with Alaska Airlines focused on West Coast routes.

The immediate effect of the partnership will enable American flyers to connect through Toronto to reach Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Victoria, and Winnipeg. In the coming weeks, additional destinations including Calgary, Charlottetown, Kelowna, Vancouver, St. John's, and Saskatoon will become available.

Porter’s frequent flyers are also set to benefit from this arrangement by gaining access to codeshare itineraries through several major American hubs and eventual connections across the U.S. carrier’s Caribbean, Central America, and South America networks.

Despite lower travel demand between the U.S. and Canada in 2025 compared to previous years, Porter planned a significant increase in seat capacity—24% more than in 2024—and projected a 125% rise over 2023 figures according to data from Cirium.

While Porter's growing U.S. route network does not currently extend additional benefits for American flyers under this agreement beyond Toronto-based flights, both airlines indicated they "will continue to evaluate opportunities to expand this relationship further" with possible future enhancements in codeshare destinations and loyalty perks for AAdvantage elite members aboard Porter flights.
