Delta Air Lines is highlighting the capabilities of its mobile app and SkyMiles loyalty program, aiming to provide travelers with a streamlined experience from booking to travel benefits. According to Delta, the app serves as a central hub for planning trips, managing bookings, tracking Medallion Status, and accessing exclusive offers.

The company reports that nine out of ten Medallion Members use the app for day-of-travel needs. The interface is designed to simplify processes such as joining SkyMiles, booking flights or vacation packages, selecting Choice Benefits for elite members, and linking accounts with partners like Starbucks and Uber for additional rewards.

“Joining SkyMiles through the app is easy – and free! With just a few taps, you can start enjoying exclusive benefits—like fast, free Delta Sync Wi-Fi presented by T-Mobile, —on your next flight,” Delta states in its announcement.

SkyMiles Members earn miles on flights (excluding Main Basic fares) that can be redeemed for various rewards including flights and upgrades. New Medallion Members can select their Choice Benefits directly within the app. These include options such as Global or Regional Upgrade Certificates, bonus miles, Delta Sky Club access, or gifting Medallion Status. “As of June 1, Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members select and manage their Choice Benefits exclusively through the app—making it easier than ever to enjoy the benefits for your loyalty,” according to Delta.

Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members receive four free drink vouchers per year which are accessible via the “Wallet” section of the app. Eligible upgrades using Global or Regional Upgrade Certificates can also be redeemed during checkout within the application.

To enhance everyday earning opportunities, SkyMiles Members can link their accounts with brands like Starbucks and Uber via the “Delta Partners” section in-app. Linked accounts allow members to earn extra miles on rides to U.S. airports with UberX (and more on premium services), as well as double Stars at Starbucks on days they travel with Delta.

The airline has introduced Touchless ID—a biometric technology enabling eligible SkyMiles Members enrolled in TSA PreCheck to pass through security checkpoints using facial recognition instead of physical IDs or boarding passes. This feature is currently available at most Delta hubs and will expand further by late 2025.

Members can also monitor progress toward elite status tiers by tracking Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs), earned miles, recent activity, lounge visits—including those for Reserve Card holders—and guest passes directly in-app. For 2026 qualification toward 2027 status levels, MQD thresholds will remain unchanged: $5,000 for Silver; $10,000 for Gold; $15,000 for Platinum; $28,000 for Diamond.

Delta encourages both new and existing customers to utilize its digital tools: “Whether you're flying or booking through Delta Vacations, your everyday loyalty continues to count toward elite status—without any increased spend requirements next year.”
