British Airways has announced it will launch a new route between London Heathrow and St. Louis, with flights set to begin on April 19, 2025. The service will operate four times a week using the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

The decision to add St. Louis is in line with British Airways’ expansion strategy for the United States. The airline plans to operate an average of 50 daily flights to the US next summer, which marks a record for the carrier.

St. Louis previously had direct flights to London, most recently when American Airlines served London Gatwick until 2003. British Caledonian also operated flights to St. Louis in the 1980s.

The new route will cover approximately 3,650 nautical miles (6,760 kilometers) each way. It remains unclear whether the aircraft used will feature British Airways’ latest Club World cabin or an earlier configuration.

British Airways expects to serve 27 US airports next year, including major cities such as Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, Miami, New York JFK, and now St. Louis.

The schedule for the new route is as follows:

- Departures from Heathrow: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 16:25 local time; arrival in St. Louis at 19:30.

- Return from St. Louis: Same days at 22:00 local time; arrival in Heathrow at 12:05 the following day.

The greater St. Louis metropolitan area has a population exceeding three million and hosts several Fortune 500 companies along with other large firms. Its GDP reached $227 billion in 2023 and has experienced rapid growth per capita in recent years. These factors are expected to drive demand for premium seats on the new service.

According to booking data from July 2024 through June 2025, about 730 round-trip passengers traveled daily between St. Louis and Europe—a figure that rises above 830 when including South Asia and the Middle East markets. Of these routes, London was identified as having around 130 daily round-trip passengers from St. Louis, making it the largest unserved US city for London-bound travel.

Top connecting destinations via Heathrow for travelers from St. Louis include Frankfurt (primarily due to nonstop service), Rome, Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Athens, Madrid, Hyderabad, and Venice.

The average one-way fare between London and St. Louis stands at $1,225 (including fuel surcharge), reflecting significant premium demand similar to fares seen on Dallas routes but with lower operating costs due to shorter distance.

Currently Lufthansa is the only long-haul European carrier serving St. Louis directly from Frankfurt since June 2022 with its A330-300 aircraft; this service is scheduled to increase from three weekly flights to five next summer.

With British Airways entering the market alongside Lufthansa’s expanded operations, this marks the first time in many years that St. Louis will have multiple direct links to Europe.
