Delta Air Lines has introduced updated travel experiences and refreshed products for its customers, effective October 1. The new options include Basic, Classic, and Extra for Delta Main, as well as Classic and Extra for Delta Comfort and higher-tier products. The Extra experience is available on flights departing from the United States and Canada, with some international markets included.

Customers who previously purchased a “Basic Economy” ticket will now see it labeled as “Delta Main Basic,” while non-refundable tickets are now called “Classic.” Those who bought a refundable ticket for travel after October 1 in markets where Extra is offered will automatically receive the Extra experience without needing to take further action.

Delta clarified that travel experiences cannot be modified after purchase. However, travelers can cancel their itinerary and rebook if they wish to select a different experience, subject to fees or fare differences. Product upgrades—such as moving from Delta Main to Delta Comfort or Delta First—are allowed post-purchase for those holding Classic or Extra experiences. When upgrading, the original experience classification remains consistent throughout the journey. Customers with a Basic travel experience are not eligible for product upgrades but may buy seat assignments within their current product if available.

The airline’s new shopping interface also comes with updates to the Fly Delta app, including real-time flight updates through live activities and expanded options such as Global and Regional Upgrade Certificate redemption.

Not all routes will offer every experience type. While Basic and Classic are system-wide (with Basic subject to availability), the Extra experience is limited to itineraries starting in the U.S., Canada, or select international locations. Where Extra is unavailable, customers will see the legacy Refundable product instead.

For Medallion Members seeking upgrades, status level and purchased product remain key factors in eligibility. Among members with equal status who have purchased the same product, those with an Extra experience will receive priority consideration.

The Extra package includes higher boarding priority within Delta Main (Zone 5), increased mileage earning at seven miles per dollar spent (excluding taxes and fees), full refundability of unused portions of tickets back to the original payment method, and access to same-day confirmed flight changes where available in the U.S. and Canada.

If customers do not see their purchased Extra experience reflected in their trip details via My Trips, Delta advises that benefits such as boarding zone priority should still be correctly applied by its systems.
