Ronald Lam Chief Executive Officer | Cathay Pacific

The Cathay Group has announced the launch of daily non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Changsha, set to begin on November 4, 2025. This new route will make Changsha the fifth Chinese Mainland destination added by the group in 2025, expanding its network in the region to a total of 24 destinations.

According to the company, these flights will be operated by Cathay Pacific using Airbus A321neo aircraft, which offer both Business and Economy cabins as well as inflight entertainment. The new service is intended to provide more travel options for passengers traveling between Hong Kong and Hunan Province, and to connect customers in Changsha with over 100 destinations worldwide through Cathay’s global network.

Cathay Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam stated: “We are excited to introduce non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Changsha, establishing an important bridge that fosters trade and cultural exchange between Hunan and the rest of the world via our Hong Kong hub. With Changsha as our 24th destination in the Chinese Mainland, we are doubling down on our promise of greater choice, convenience and connectivity for our customers. We look forward to welcoming even more travellers aboard and helping spark new journeys in travel, trade and tourism.”

The flight schedule includes two round trips each day: morning departures from Hong Kong on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 09:15 (arriving in Changsha at 10:50), with return flights leaving Changsha at 13:05 (arriving in Hong Kong at 14:45). Evening departures from Hong Kong will take place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 19:30 (arriving in Changsha at 21:05), with returns from Changsha at 22:10 (arriving in Hong Kong at 23:50).

This year alone, Cathay Group has launched or announced passenger flights to a total of 21 new destinations. In addition to Changsha, other recent additions include Urumqi by Cathay Pacific in April; Changzhou and Yiwu by HK Express in May; and Guiyang by HK Express in July.

The airline group is also increasing flight frequencies on several routes during the winter season. Service between Hong Kong and Beijing Capital International Airport will increase from seven to eight daily return flights. Combined with a daily HK Express flight to Beijing Daxing International Airport, there will be nine daily return flights between Hong Kong and Beijing’s two main airports. Flights to Guangzhou will rise from two to three daily returns; Chengdu service will double from one to two daily returns; while Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport will see an increase from eleven to twelve weekly return flights. Including eight daily returns to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, nearly seventy weekly return flights will operate between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

During peak winter travel periods, Cathay Pacific and HK Express together plan more than 330 return flights per week linking the Chinese Mainland with Hong Kong. Additionally, HK Express will run special services between Hong Kong and Harbin on October 17 and October 22.

Cathay Group has invested over HK$100 billion into strengthening its position as an international aviation hub based in Hong Kong. Recent projects include a redevelopment plan for its lounges worldwide. In August this year, Cathay Pacific opened its redesigned flagship lounge at Beijing Capital International Airport; it also operates lounges at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shekou Cruise Home Port in Shenzhen.

The airline has also introduced new “Chinese Classics” inflight dining menus for Business class passengers on most routes from Hong Kong to cities across the Chinese Mainland since April this year.
