The UNI Post & Logistics World Conference concluded in Bangkok with the election of new leadership and the adoption of a strategic plan aimed at addressing major challenges in the sector, including digitalization, privatization, climate change, and e-commerce.
Jan Simpson, National President of CUPW-STTP (Canada), was elected as the UNI Post & Logistics World President. She succeeds Dave Ward, General Secretary of CWU (UK). In her remarks to affiliates following her nomination, Simpson stated: “I’ve been a postal worker my entire adult life, and like so many of you, I know the realities of the work floor. Those experiences have shaped my commitment to fairness, equality, and justice for all postal and logistics workers. Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving our members in Canada, and UNI Americas, and now I am ready to bring that same commitment, energy and experience to a bigger stage.”
Jens Saverstam from SEKO in Sweden was elected Deputy World President. He told participants: “I have worked in the post for 40 years in post – my first job was delivering Christmas cards. I’m proud to be a postal worker, and this something many postal workers feel. We should be proud and must bring this pride to our work.”
