Hainan Airlines announced on X that it will begin nonstop flights between Brussels and Chongqing starting November 22, 2025.

Hainan Airlines' new Brussels–Chongqing service expands the carrier's Belgium–China network, adding a western China mega-city to Brussels Airport’s long-haul map. The airline already serves Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai from Brussels, providing options for business and diaspora travel while diversifying beyond Beijing and the coast. The Chongqing link taps demand from the Yangtze River economic belt and the city’s role as an inland manufacturing and logistics hub. This aligns with broader EU–China connectivity trends, offering flyers another nonstop alternative to connect into central China.

According to published schedules, the route is planned at three weekly round trips starting November 22, 2025, operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Filed timings list HU469 departing Chongqing at 02:50 and arriving in Brussels at 07:35, with HU470 leaving Brussels at 11:20 and arriving in Chongqing at 05:10+1. The schedule choice (Monday/Thursday/Saturday) offers business-friendly patterns and weekend coverage, complementing existing China services at Brussels Airport and providing additional capacity ahead of the winter peak.

Belgium–China trade underscores the market rationale: in 2024 China was Belgium’s fifth supplier (€33.3 billion imports, −5.8% year-on-year) and tenth client (€7.9 billion exports, −3.8% year-on-year), resulting in a bilateral imbalance of €-24.2 billion. Sustained two-way flows in chemicals, machinery, and consumer goods create steady cargo and premium-travel demand—areas where nonstop frequencies materially improve time-sensitive supply chains and executive travel reliability between Belgium’s capital region and inland China.

Hainan Airlines is a Chinese full-service carrier headquartered in Haikou with major hubs including Beijing-Capital, Shenzhen, Chongqing, and Xi’an. Founded in 1993, it operates scheduled domestic and international services across roughly 500 routes. It has been recognized for service quality, earning "Best Airline in China" at the 2024 Skytrax World Airline Awards. The Brussels–Chongqing addition fits its strategy of leveraging multiple mainland hubs to build China–Europe connectivity while maintaining a premium product positioning.
