Copa Airlines has announced the promotion of its Panama Stopover program, which allows travelers to stay in Panama for one to seven days at no additional airfare cost while accessing exclusive partner offers. The announcement was made on the social media platform X.

According to Copa Airlines, the Panama Stopover is a joint destination-marketing initiative centered around Copa’s "Hub of the Americas" at Tocumen International Airport. It encourages connecting passengers to spend between 24 hours and seven days in Panama without increasing their ticket price. Travelers who opt for this stop can benefit from discounts at hotels, restaurants, and activities by presenting a reservation or voucher. This approach aims to provide value for leisure or business travelers wishing to experience Panama en route to another city. The program leverages private-sector partnerships to boost tourism with minimal friction and clear benefits for consumers and local merchants.

Recent traffic data supports the program's momentum. Industry reports indicate that July 2025 set a record with over 17,500 passengers utilizing the Stopover, marking the highest monthly figure since its launch in 2019. Year-to-date growth is nearly 18% compared to the previous year. This uptake suggests that the offer appeals to price-sensitive travelers who still desire destination time while also supporting retail and hospitality revenues reliant on visitor volume. For an airline hub strategy, these gains reflect a healthy conversion from pure transit to short-stay tourism.

The breadth of Copa's network underpins the Stopover's appeal. By September 2025, Copa’s hub was expected to connect Panama with 88 destinations across 32 countries, facilitating dense banked connections that make it practical for travelers to add one to seven days without complex re-ticketing. This scale ensures that sampling Panama incurs low incremental costs in terms of time and money, while partners can target offers at predictable waves of arrivals. For those traveling between North and South America, the program effectively transforms a required connection into a short planned visit.

Copa Airlines serves as Panama's flag carrier, headquartered in Panama City with its main hub at Tocumen International Airport. Founded in 1947, the airline operates a hub-and-spoke network across the Americas and is part of Star Alliance. Public filings indicate approximately 89 destinations served by a fleet exceeding 100 aircraft, with a strategy focused on high on-time performance and efficient single-aisle operations connecting major markets with one-stop service. As a leading Latin American carrier, Copa combines competitive pricing and reliability to support regional commerce and tourism.
