In 2024, Ontario International Airport in California recorded over seven million round-trip passengers, marking the first time in 17 years that it has reached this level. This represents an increase of more than 25% compared to its pre-pandemic passenger numbers from 2019. The growth has been led by airlines such as Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Volaris. The airport also saw new service from Avianca beginning in 2021 and STARLUX starting in 2025, while Avelo launched flights in 2024 but later exited the market.

Ontario International Airport’s management attended Routes World in Hong Kong to promote the airport among a global audience of airline and tourism industry professionals. The airport’s promotional materials included statements such as: "More than nine million people live closer to ONT than LAX," "Introducing Southern California's fastest and easiest airport," "ONT is the fastest-growing of the ten largest airports in California," and "ONT is open 24/7; you won't find slots or curfews here!" These messages highlighted accessibility and operational flexibility, features valued especially by cargo carriers.

Data for October 2025 through January 2026 show that Ontario’s passenger departures have increased by over two percent year-on-year, with an average of 76 daily takeoffs—sometimes reaching up to 90. Following Avelo’s departure in March 2025, eleven airlines now operate at Ontario International: Southwest (which accounts for about 42% of all departures), American (14%), Delta (11%), Alaska Airlines, Avianca, China Airlines, Frontier, JetBlue, STARLUX, United, and Volaris.

STARLUX began service to Taipei in June 2025 with four weekly flights on Airbus A350-900 aircraft. China Airlines continues its daily Taipei-Ontario route using Boeing 777-300ERs or Airbus A350-900s.

During this period, Ontario offers flights to thirty destinations—twenty-four domestic cities and six international locations. Its international network includes Guadalajara, Leon/Guanajuato, Los Cabos, Morelia, San Salvador, and Taipei. Domestic destinations range from Atlanta and Austin to Honolulu and New York JFK.

According to U.S. Department of Transportation data cited by the airport's management at Routes World Hong Kong (https://www.routesonline.com/news/29/breaking-news/301565/routes-world-ontario-international-airport-to-highlight-growth-opportunities/), Orlando stands out as the largest unserved market from Ontario International with an average of 106 passengers per day each way connecting via other hubs—most commonly Denver. Other notable unserved domestic routes include New York LaGuardia (90 PDEW), Washington Reagan (77), Philadelphia (72), Spokane (66), San Antonio (64), Indianapolis (61), St. Louis (61), Kansas City (59), and Boston (55). For cities within a thousand miles that lack nonstop service—Spokane leads this group at sixty-six passengers per day each way; El Paso follows with forty-one; Albuquerque with thirty-eight; Reno with thirty-three—all previously served by carriers such as ExpressJet.

Ontario International Airport continues efforts to expand its reach through industry events like Routes World while focusing on attracting new airlines and routes based on demonstrated demand.
