Xiamen Air now operates the world's longest nonstop passenger flight, overtaking Singapore Airlines. The service runs from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Fuzhou, China, with a scheduled block time of 19 hours and 20 minutes. This route was previously operated between 2017 and 2020 and resumed in 2024, but this is the first time it has reached such a lengthy scheduled duration.

The distance between JFK and Fuzhou is about 6,752 nautical miles (12,505 kilometers). The extended block time is due to the flight path avoiding Russian airspace. Other Chinese airlines such as Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern still use shorter routes that cross Russia, resulting in shorter flight times for similar distances. For example, Cathay Pacific’s JFK to Hong Kong route can take up to 16 hours and 25 minutes, while China Southern’s JFK to Guangzhou flight takes up to 16 hours and 20 minutes.

According to data from November and December schedules, Xiamen Air operates two weekly flights on this route using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Singapore Airlines’ Newark-to-Singapore route follows closely behind at 19 hours and 10 minutes with daily Airbus A350-900ULR service. Other long nonstop flights include Singapore Airlines’ JFK-to-Singapore at 18 hours and 55 minutes, Philippine Airlines’ JFK-to-Manila at 18 hours and 20 minutes, and Air New Zealand’s JFK-to-Auckland at 18 hours and 10 minutes.

The demand for travel between New York City and Fuzhou is significant. In the year ending July 2025, about 160,000 round-trip passengers traveled between these cities. This number surpasses traffic between JFK and Guangzhou or Beijing but falls short of Shanghai’s total.

In addition to nonstop services, new one-stop options are emerging. On December 4th, China Eastern will launch a route from Shanghai Pudong to Buenos Aires via Auckland using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft three times per week. The return journey from Argentina to China via New Zealand will have a maximum block time of up to 29 hours.
