Earlier this week, Alaska Airlines ended its codeshare agreements with Singapore Airlines and LATAM. The airline stated that these partnerships were no longer effective. Despite the termination, Alaska Airlines continues to maintain interline agreements with both carriers, allowing passengers to book connecting itineraries and check baggage through to their final destination.

FlightGlobal reported that Alaska Airlines, along with subsidiaries Horizon Air and SkyWest Airlines, notified the United States Department of Transportation about the discontinuation of these codeshare agreements. The agreement with Singapore Airlines had been in place since 2017, while the partnership with LATAM began in 2019.

The reasons for ending these codeshares have not been fully disclosed. However, they may be linked to Alaska Airlines' ongoing fleet expansion and network development plans. The airline recently acquired Boeing 787 aircraft from Hawaiian Airlines and expects additional deliveries of this type. Additionally, as part of its merger activities, Alaska introduced a new loyalty program called Atmos Rewards in collaboration with Hawaiian Airlines.

While losing two codeshare partners, Alaska has expanded existing partnerships with Starlux Airlines and Icelandair. Previously, Starlux connected Taipei to eight U.S. destinations via Seattle (SEA) and San Francisco (SFO). Under the new agreement, this number has increased to 20 cities accessible through those gateways.

Alaska also enhanced its partnership with Icelandair as they mark 15 years of cooperation. This updated agreement offers greater flexibility for travelers and improved opportunities for earning and redeeming points on both airlines. Coinciding with this announcement is a new direct service by Alaska from Seattle to Reykjavik scheduled to start on May 28, 2026. The daily summer flight will complement Icelandair’s current services from Seattle and provide customers access to over 35 daily connections throughout Europe.

Although Alaska Airlines is still developing its long-haul operations, it provides global connectivity through various alliances and partnerships. As a member of the oneworld alliance, it collaborates closely with other members while maintaining additional codeshare arrangements categorized by benefits such as status recognition or mileage accrual potential.

Beyond full codeshares, Alaska maintains numerous interline agreements that extend network reach even though customers may not earn or redeem points at the same level as they do with primary partners.
