Italian airline Neos has announced the indefinite suspension of its Amritsar-Milan-Toronto route, citing "international geopolitical instability" and a significant drop in bookings. The airline stated that low passenger numbers have made the route unsustainable, leading to a complete halt of its flights to Canada for the foreseeable future.

Neos began its transatlantic operations less than four years ago, launching direct flights between Milan Malpensa Airport (MPX) and New York JFK International Airport (JFK) in November 2021 using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The now-suspended Amritsar-Milan-Toronto service was introduced in April 2023, targeting Canada's Punjabi diaspora and operating with a stopover at Milan Malpensa.

According to information on Neos' website and data from aviation analytics company Cirium, the final flight on this route will operate on October 8, 2025. After this date, the weekly flight is removed from schedules until at least the end of summer 2026. Despite exiting the Canadian market, Neos will continue its connections from Rome Fiumicino and Verona to Amritsar.

The affected service included four flights: NO325 from Amritsar to Milan; NO424 from Milan to Toronto; NO425 from Toronto back to Milan; and NO524 from Milan returning to Amritsar. The total journey involved around 16 hours of flying plus a five-hour layover in Milan.

In an official statement, Neos said:

"Due to the current international geopolitical instability and the resulting decline in booking trends, with load factors unfortunately insufficient to ensure operational sustainability, we are forced to suspend all flights between Amritsar and Toronto as of October 8, 2025."

For travelers between Amritsar and Canada, alternatives remain available. Qatar Airways offers a one-stop connection via Doha using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. This service operates three times weekly between Amritsar and Toronto since December last year and provides shorter layovers compared to Neos’ previous schedule. Additionally, Air Canada and Air India offer direct flights from Delhi to Toronto.

Qatar Airways has served Amritsar since 2009 with daily flights and also operates daily service between Doha and both Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL), enhancing connectivity options for passengers traveling between India and Canada.

Neos’ fleet consists of six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners capable of seating up to 359 passengers across two classes: premium economy in a 2-3-2 layout at the front with economy seats behind. Like other airlines operating Boeing’s Dreamliner model—including British Airways—Neos has experienced engine issues recently. To maintain operations during these disruptions, it has wet-leased aircraft such as Airbus A340s from Romania’s Legend Airlines for some routes including Amritsar-Toronto.

Beyond its Dreamliners, Neos operates an all-Boeing fleet including both Boeing 737-800s and MAX 8s; it previously flew Boeing 767-300s before the pandemic.
