Thai Airways is set to introduce lie-flat premium economy seats on select routes in Asia, starting at the end of October. The new seating option, called Premium Economy Plus, will be available on flights from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to Chennai, Dhaka, Hyderabad, Jakarta, and Kathmandu.

The airline announced the development through a social media post and explained that these lie-flat seats are being offered following the recent acquisition of three Airbus A330-300 aircraft previously operated by Virgin Atlantic. These planes retain their original interiors for now.

"Upgrade your senses for smoother journeys. Experience greater comfort with Premium Economy Plus. Spacious seats, generous legroom, and exclusive services throughout your journey. Make every journey more special than ever," Thai Airways stated.

The Premium Economy Plus cabin features 31 flatbed seats arranged in an angled 1-1-1 configuration. Passengers in this section also have access to an onboard bar. In addition to this new product, each aircraft includes a conventional premium economy cabin with 48 recliner seats in a 2-3-2 layout and an economy class section with 185 seats.

The ex-Virgin Atlantic A330s were delivered between October 2024 and August 2025 and are about 13 to 14 years old. The lie-flat seats offer up to a 42-degree recline when upright but can convert into fully flat beds measuring 20 inches wide. Entertainment screens are sized at 11.1 inches.

Standard premium economy seats on these aircraft are also 20 inches wide but offer a pitch of 38 inches and a seven-inch recline along with slightly smaller entertainment screens at 10.5 inches.

According to Thai Airways’ website, "travelers on long-distance regional and international flights are provided with a personal pillow and blanket."

This move follows industry trends where airlines are introducing 'business class lite' products for shorter routes where passengers may not want or need full business class amenities but still seek additional comfort.
