Sean Doyle, Chairman and Chief Executive | British Airways

British Airways has expanded its premium offerings by opening two new lounges at major international airports outside the United Kingdom. The new facilities are located at Miami International Airport (MIA) in the United States and Dubai International Airport (DXB) in the United Arab Emirates.

Both Miami and Dubai are significant destinations for British Airways, served by its largest long-haul aircraft, the Airbus A380. The investment in these lounges highlights the importance of these routes to the airline’s global network.

The lounge in Dubai draws on local design influences, with British Airways stating that its aesthetics are inspired by "fretwork patterning and architecture in the United Arab Emirates." Covering nearly 5,800 square feet, it features full-service bars as central elements and menus that use local ingredients with a British influence. Premium passengers and elite status holders can access self-serve dining options such as Arabic breakfast, mezze selection, cakes, and a cheeseboard. The project was developed in partnership with Al Tayer Stocks.

Calum Laming, Chief Customer Officer at British Airways, commented: "These unique spaces (...) are the next step in our extensive lounge transformation plan. Whether they’re looking to relax, dine, work, or enjoy a drink at the fully staffed bar, there’s something for everyone."

In Miami, British Airways has opened its largest lounge outside London exclusively operated by BA. The facility spans 13,000 square feet and is located directly above BA's departure gate in Terminal E. Local contractors including TGA Consulting, Nunez Construction, and Bermello & Ajamil Architects were involved in bringing the project to completion.

According to British Airways, the Miami lounge is "a celebration of the airline’s British originality, charm and wit," while also incorporating elements inspired by Miami’s Art Deco style and iconic buildings. Guests have views of the airfield and can choose from drinks such as local ale or a Prickly Margarita cocktail created specifically for this location. Five distinct zones offer different experiences within the lounge; food options include locally sourced dishes featuring seasonal Miami produce with a British twist. First class passengers have access to an exclusive Concorde Dining Room.

Dubai International Airport remains an important long-haul destination for BA. Data from Cirium shows that three daily round trips operate between London Heathrow (LHR) and Dubai using Airbus A380s as well as Boeing 777s and 787 Dreamliners. There is one daytime departure along with two overnight flights each day.

At Miami International Airport, BA currently operates daily flights using only Airbus A380 aircraft on routes to and from London. This frequency will increase to twice-daily services starting October 26 when IATA's Winter Schedule begins.

BA’s Airbus A380 aircraft feature a total of 469 seats across four classes: 14 first class suites on the lower deck front section; 97 Club World business class flatbeds split between decks; 55 World Traveller Plus premium economy recliners; and 303 World Traveller economy seats.
