Premium economy cabins offer a compromise, providing extra space, enhanced amenities, and improved service without the high cost of business class. In the United States, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines each have their own premium economy products with unique features.

Reviewers often define “comfortable” premium economy by looking at seat recline depth, leg and foot support, ergonomics, and how well service and amenities complement the seat itself. According to Eye of the Flyer’s 2024 review of Delta Premium Select:

Across all three airlines, reviewers emphasize that soft products—such as amenity kits, improved cutlery, noise-canceling headsets (especially noted for Delta), upgraded bedding (highlighted for United), or attentive crew—can make an important difference in perceived comfort levels.

Ultimately, choosing the most comfortable premium economy option depends on factors such as route length, specific aircraft configuration (since these can vary even within one airline’s fleet), upgrade cost versus benefits received, and individual traveler priorities regarding space or service consistency.

Travelers are increasingly seeking predictability along with physical upgrades; reliable amenities and engaged staff often matter more than just seat dimensions alone when deciding whether an upgrade was worth it.
