Alaska Airlines is preparing for the upcoming winter season by utilizing its growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on a range of domestic and international routes. The airline currently operates 88 Boeing 737 MAX jets, with the majority being the larger MAX 9 variant, and has additional orders pending for both the MAX 8 and the stretched MAX 10 models.

The MAX 9 makes up most of Alaska Airlines' current fleet, with 80 aircraft averaging three years old. Three are temporarily inactive due to maintenance, while another has been retired following an incident. The remaining eight jets are the smaller MAX 8, which average just one year in age. Alaska Airlines has placed further orders for 12 more MAX 8s and 63 MAX 10s.

Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commented in 2022: "The 737 MAX family offers environmental performance and flexibility. (...) Built in our Renton factory near Alaska's headquarters in Washington state, these airplanes will carry passengers to destinations for years to come."

According to scheduling data from Cirium, Alaska Airlines plans to operate over 8,000 flights using its Boeing 737 MAX family in December 2025. These flights will provide more than 1.4 million seats and nearly 2.6 billion available seat miles during that month.

The Boeing 737 MAX 9 will account for over 7,000 of these flights. Internationally, its most frequent route will be between Los Angeles (LAX) and Liberia in Costa Rica, with Cancun also receiving regular service from LAX using this model. Domestically, the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport serves as a central hub for the airline’s MAX operations; Anchorage is scheduled for up to seven daily flights from Seattle on some days in December. Other major destinations served multiple times daily include San Diego, Kona, New York JFK, Newark, Maui, and Phoenix.

For the smaller Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets, Alaska Airlines plans around a thousand flights during December. About a quarter of these will be international routes—most notably daily service from LAX to Guatemala City and near-daily service to San Jose in Costa Rica. On domestic routes, the busiest corridor is between Los Angeles and Seattle-Tacoma with only about two dozen scheduled flights throughout the month. Other notable domestic connections include Seattle-San Jose and Portland-San Diego.

With continued expansion of its modern narrowbody fleet and strategic deployment across key markets this winter season, Alaska Airlines aims to meet passenger demand efficiently across both short- and long-haul networks.
