Ed Bastian, Chief Executive Officer | Delta Air Lines

By the end of 2025, Delta Air Lines plans to have dedicated Delta One check-in areas at all of its U.S. hubs. The airline announced that new semi-private check-in zones will open at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) by the end of this year. These are the last two domestic hubs without a designated area for Delta One passengers.

While these new spaces will not match the exclusive features of Delta’s premium check-in at Los Angeles International Airport, such as private security entrances, they will offer a higher level of service than the standard SkyPriority lanes. The new check-in areas at SLC and MSP will include amenities like snacks, coffee, and water, providing a quieter environment for eligible travelers.

Access to these areas is limited to passengers holding tickets for Delta One, which covers most of the airline’s long-haul international flights and select domestic first-class routes. Delta maintains international service from both Salt Lake City and Minneapolis to destinations in Europe and Asia.

Neither SLC nor MSP will feature a Delta One Lounge, but Salt Lake City is set to open a new, large Sky Club by the end of the month, according to a Delta spokesperson.

Delta’s expansion of premium services is part of a broader strategy to attract high-end travelers. The airline has reported strong financial results in recent years, driven in part by its partnership with American Express. In 2025, Delta expects to generate a record $8 billion from its Amex credit card collaboration, following $2 billion in revenue during the third quarter alone.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian said, "We've been acquiring a record number of premium cardholders. The mix of those [card] acquisitions is skewing higher and higher in terms of reaching a more premium audience. And those customers have better credit scores, so they get approved more often."

The airline’s top-tier consumer card, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card, has an annual fee of $650 and offers benefits such as an annual companion ticket and 15 Sky Club visits.

Delta’s core customer base includes many with household incomes above $100,000. Bastian noted, "Our consumer base has remained financially sound."

Despite an overall decline in consumer sentiment in September, as reported by the University of Michigan Survey of Consumers, Delta saw continued demand for its premium cabins even as main cabin sales to Europe slowed during the late summer. The airline attributed this to economic uncertainty earlier in the year when many travelers book summer trips.

Delta reported that its Premium Select and Delta One seats remained popular during this period. The company also observed an increase in travel spending among both business and leisure travelers in recent months, which could signal stronger demand heading into 2026, when Delta plans to add several new transatlantic routes.
