Boeing announced on the social media platform X that it is highlighting Yessenia Sanchez, a San Antonio-based mechanic. Her early interest in aviation led to a Boeing internship and eventually a full-time role repairing the C-17, F/A-18, and F-15 aircraft.

According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Manufacturing Month is a nationwide initiative held each October to promote modern manufacturing careers and inspire students to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. The Manufacturing Institute reports that over 70 percent of U.S. manufacturers use Manufacturing Month events to highlight skilled trade roles and workforce innovation. Boeing’s spotlight on Sanchez during this month aligns with the national framework emphasizing hands-on careers in aerospace manufacturing.

According to Boeing’s official post on X, "a high school mechanics class sparked a lifelong passion for aviation within Yessenia Sanchez, an early-career mechanic at our San Antonio site." The post continues that after developing "hands-on skills as a #BoeingIntern," Sanchez became a "valued member of #TeamBoeing" who now uses carbon fiber to repair the C-17, F/A-18, and F-15. This highlight illustrates Boeing’s focus on employee stories that merge technical craftsmanship with career development for Manufacturing Month.

According to a Boeing press release on its San Antonio operations, the company invested $2.3 million in STEM education and technical training in 2023 to strengthen its regional talent pipeline. The release noted that the San Antonio site supports sustainment and modernization of the C-17, F/A-18, and F-15 aircraft, providing the same platform context featured in Sanchez’s story. This facility represents a core part of Boeing’s defense services network and underscores the strategic importance of technical careers like Sanchez’s to national defense readiness.

Boeing is a leading global aerospace company that designs, manufactures, and services commercial airplanes, defense products, and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries. According to Boeing’s corporate overview, the company is America’s largest exporter and employs more than 170,000 people worldwide. Its mission emphasizes innovation, safety, and integrity while investing in STEM programs to develop future engineering and manufacturing talent.
