Japan Airlines has announced on the social media platform X the launch of its annual Original Osechi promotion. This initiative features a Japanese-Western style osechi set, offers up to three times the usual miles for bookings made in October, and includes a luxury prize lottery scheduled for 2026.

According to Japan Airlines' post on X, the "JALショッピング Original Osechi" is a popular New Year’s culinary offering that combines traditional Japanese and Western dishes. The osechi set includes a logo-embossed plate and furoshiki wrapping, which symbolize celebration and craftsmanship. This campaign aims to tie Japanese cultural tradition to JAL’s premium brand identity by integrating travel rewards with seasonal luxury dining.

JAL Shopping states that customers who order the Osechi set in October can earn up to three times the standard JAL Mileage Bank miles. This incentive is designed to encourage early seasonal purchasing. The promotion also includes a lottery for participants in 2026 to win luxury prizes, a feature carried over from previous years of the campaign. The airline notes that cabin crew members personally reviewed and tasted the menu, lending authenticity to their endorsement of the culinary offering.

Nikkei Asia reports that Japan Airlines has expanded its retail business through JAL Mall, which integrates JAL Shopping, mileage services, and curated products like the Osechi collection. This initiative aligns with JAL’s diversification strategy aimed at strengthening non-airline revenue sources and building year-round engagement with frequent fliers. The growth of JAL Mall has positioned it as a core pillar in the airline’s consumer experience ecosystem.

Japan Airlines (JAL), founded in 1951, is Japan’s flagship carrier and a member of the oneworld alliance. It operates international and domestic passenger and cargo services. The airline emphasizes premium service, sustainability, and customer loyalty through initiatives such as JAL Mileage Bank and JAL Mall. According to JAL's corporate site, its retail ventures—including the Osechi promotion—reflect its strategy to blend cultural heritage with modern hospitality.
