Hawaiian Airlines is preparing for its final flight under its own operating certificate before fully merging operations with Alaska Airlines. The integration, expected to be formalized with the issuance of a Single Operating Certificate (SOC) by late October, marks a significant transition in U.S. aviation.

The process began on October 26, when both airlines started renumbering flights to align schedules and prevent overlap. This move is part of the effort to unify operations as Hawaiian Airlines prepares to phase out its brand and shift into Alaska’s systems. The Hawaiian Airlines code is anticipated to disappear by April 2026 as booking and branding are consolidated.

Regulatory steps have already been taken, with Department of Transportation approvals clearing the way for transferring route authorities from Hawaiian Airlines to Alaska Airlines. After receiving the SOC, all operational aspects will gradually move under Alaska’s platform.

According to Airways Magazine, “the final flight to operate under the original Hawaiian Airlines certificate will be HA 866, followed by the first post-integration service, which will operate as AS 2604 once the single operating certificate (SOC) comes into effect in full form.” There is an operational rule that if HA 866 departs more than 90 minutes late, it will switch mid-operation from a Hawaiian flight number to an Alaska callsign due to SOC timing.

A ceremony marking this milestone is expected onboard the last flight, featuring commemorative touches and possible giveaways for passengers and media present.

Alaska Air Group's acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines was aimed at expanding its presence within the airline industry. By integrating Hawaiian’s long-haul fleet—including future Boeing 787 aircraft—Alaska intends to increase its reach into global markets. The company has already launched transpacific routes from Seattle and plans further expansion into Europe from that hub.

The merger between Alaska and Hawaiian represents one of the largest airline consolidations in recent years. Financial advisors from several major investment banks assisted both carriers during this process.

Following integration, both brands will continue under one airline group but maintain distinct identities within a shared ecosystem. A joint loyalty program called Atmos Rewards is planned for rollout as part of ongoing efforts to streamline product offerings and ticketing systems across both airlines.

Leadership teams are also being merged while regulatory processes finalize bringing both carriers under a single operating structure. Once complete, Alaska Airlines aims to expand international services from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
