Dubai-based airline flydubai has announced it will begin offering complimentary meals, snacks, and refreshments to all economy class passengers starting November 2025. This move marks a shift from its previous low-cost model toward a more full-service approach. Previously, only some fares included meals, while others required passengers to pay extra. For example, a meal on the Basel-Dubai route in November 2025 currently costs 35 AED ($9.53).

The airline’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, commented on the new service: "Redefining the Economy Class offering across all flights represents a significant evolution in our business model, offering customers a more elevated and convenient travel journey."

The selection of onboard meals will vary by route length and region, with dishes representing African, European, Indian, Middle Eastern, Russian, and Southeast Asian cuisines.

In addition to complimentary meals, flydubai will also provide free in-flight entertainment (IFE) with headphones for all passengers. Previously, this service was available at no charge only in business class or for an additional 15 AED ($4.08) in economy. The entertainment system offers over 1,000 options including movies from Hollywood and Bollywood as well as TV shows, music, and podcasts.

The airline’s fare structure will continue to offer different levels—Economy Lite, Economy Value, Economy Flex, and Business Class—with varying baggage allowances and other features. However, meals and IFE will now be standard across all classes.

This change comes as flydubai prepares for the delivery of its first Boeing 787 aircraft. The airline has ordered 30 Boeing 787s to expand its network beyond Europe, Asia, and Africa. While these widebody aircraft are expected to allow longer routes than before—potentially up to 12 hours—the inclusion of complimentary meals is seen as necessary for passenger comfort on extended flights.

The first deliveries of the Boeing 787 were initially anticipated next year but are now expected in 2027. Flydubai is also planning a notable presence at the upcoming Dubai Airshow where further updates may be announced.
