American aerospace company Honeywell forecasts that demand for private jets will remain strong in the coming years, despite the return of normal commercial air service after the coronavirus pandemic. Contrary to expectations that private aviation demand would fall as commercial travel resumed, Honeywell notes that the market has stayed robust.

Honeywell, a major supplier of components and systems for business jets, released its 34th annual Global Business Aviation Outlook on October 13. The report projects record-setting demand for private jets over the next decade, with an estimated 8,500 new business jets to be sold at a total value of $283 billion. This figure marks the highest forecast in Honeywell’s history of such predictions.

According to Honeywell’s surveys of current operators and fliers, new jet deliveries are expected to grow by 5% in 2026. The data also shows that 91% of respondents plan to fly at least as much in 2026 as they did in 2025. Ben Driggs, Chief Commercial & Strategy Officer at Honeywell Aerospace, told Reuters:

"More people are flying in business aviation than pre-COVID. (...) Those hours have continued to increase at a much higher level since 2019, so it appears like people are really staying."

The report highlights that services such as jet cards offered by companies like Flexjet, NetJets, and Air Partner have contributed significantly to increased demand. The popularity of fractional ownership programs is also pushing sales higher, alongside purchases from private owners and specialized operators. Additionally, the US Air Force is considering using business jets as aerial tankers to update its aging fleet.

Jet manufacturers that use Honeywell systems include Bombardier, Gulfstream, Cessna/Textron Aviation, Embraer, Dassault, and Pilatus. Bombardier plans to introduce its Global 8000 series amid strong post-pandemic demand, while Gulfstream is preparing a successor to its G280 model.

Fractional fleets have seen notable growth since 2019—expanding by more than 65% and reaching about 1,300 aircraft in service by 2025. These operators are logging more flight hours than before the pandemic. Currently, light, midsize, and super midsize jets make up around 80% of global fractional fleets.

The outlook suggests that North America will receive approximately 70% of new jet deliveries in the near future. The region accounts for 62% of the global fleet and currently has orders placed by about 17% of North American operators. Legislative measures such as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act have supported sales by allowing businesses to deduct the cost of jets from federal taxes in their delivery year.

While cost remains a factor for buyers, there is growing interest in performance features, safety technologies like fly-by-wire avionics, and customer support among those considering new rather than pre-owned aircraft.
