Richard Forson President & Chief Executive Officer | Cargolux

Over the past six months, Cargolux has provided logistical support to GIE Luxembourg @ Expo 2025 Osaka, helping to promote Luxembourg’s cultural and economic profile at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. The airline transported various items representing Luxembourg’s heritage, including artwork and a traditional nine-pin bowling alley known as a “Keelebunn,” for display in the Luxembourg Pavilion.

The pavilion was designed around the theme “Doki Doki – The Luxembourg Heartbeat” and aimed to showcase aspects of the country such as its entrepreneurial drive, multicultural society, and culinary traditions. Digital displays featured residents at work, reflecting the diversity within Luxembourg and the range of professional opportunities available. A Cargolux aircraft mechanic participated in this initiative.

Richard Forson, President & CEO of Cargolux, stated: “The Expo 2025 in Osaka is a prominent international event and the occasion to connect nations and showcase their unique contributions to the global landscape. The deep economic bond between Luxembourg and Japan offers a solid basis on which Luxembourg-based organizations’ can expand their presence in the region. We are pleased to have played a part in this success.”

As Expo 2025 concludes, Cargolux will also provide complimentary transport for returning the Keelebunn machinery back to Luxembourg. For this flight, Cargolux purchased Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Tokyo to offset CO2 emissions related to transporting elements of the pavilion back home.

André Hansen, Commissioner General of the Luxembourg Pavilion, commented: “Cargolux’s support has enabled us to bring to the world the very best of what Luxembourg has to offer. Their expertise and know-how in air transportation significantly contributed to the successful organization of our Pavilion. We are proud of this collaboration which demonstrated the unique capacity of one of Luxembourg’s champions.”

The cooperation between Cargolux and GIE Luxembourg @ Expo 2025 Osaka highlighted how working with local partners can help expand international reach. Both organizations expect that their participation at Expo 2025 will enhance recognition for themselves and for Luxembourg globally.

Cargolux operates from Luxembourg as Europe’s leading all-cargo airline with a fleet that includes Boeing 747-8 freighters and Boeing 747-400 freighters. The company has plans to modernize its fleet by ordering ten Boeing 777-8F aircraft as replacements for older models. Its network covers more than 75 destinations through scheduled cargo flights as well as charter services, supported by over 85 offices across more than 50 countries worldwide. In addition to standard cargo operations, Cargolux offers aerial firefighting services via its Aquarius Aerial Firefighting unit. The company employs nearly 4,000 people globally and maintains a sustainability program based on Environmental, Social, and Governance principles.
