Wizz Air has announced changes to its network for the winter 2025/2026 season, discontinuing service to 22 airports compared to the previous winter. This adjustment comes amid several operational shifts for the airline, including the closure of its Abu Dhabi unit and ongoing engine issues that have led to grounded aircraft and reduced orders for Airbus A321XLRs.

According to schedule data from Cirium Diio, Wizz Air Group will serve 155 airports across Africa, the Caucasus, Europe, and the Middle East during this period. The company previously operated flights to 165 airports in winter 2024/2025.

The list of airports no longer served includes Alexandria, Almaty, Antalya, Aqaba, Astana, Bishkek, Bremen, Brussels (though Charleroi remains), Burgas, Dammam, Erbil, Leipzig, Male, Riga, Riyadh, Rome Ciampino (with Fiumicino still served), Salerno, Salzburg, Samarkand, Sohag, Tashkent and Turkistan. Thirteen of these cuts are linked directly to the end of Wizz Air’s Abu Dhabi operations. However, flights to Abu Dhabi will continue using non-based aircraft.

Some destinations—Antalya, Burgas and Ciampino—are expected to return in summer 2026 but will not be available during the off-season.

While removing these routes reduces its overall airport count by ten compared with last year’s schedule changeover on October 26th—the start date for northern carriers’ winter schedules—Wizz Air is also adding or reinstating service at twelve locations. Most of these are returning destinations except Gyumri in Armenia and Paphos in Cyprus. Gyumri is being served from Larnaca by Cyprus-based aircraft and crew; it marks Wizz Air’s first time operating this route.

Other new or returning destinations include Faro (from March 30), Cologne/Bonn (October 26), Bordeaux (October 28), Olsztyn-Mazury (October 28), Santander (October 28), Lamezia Terme (November 14), Maastricht (November 24), Warsaw Modlin (December 1), Palanga (December 10) and Palermo (December 10).

In Poland's capital region specifically: "The carrier previously served the Polish capital's secondary airport in 2012/2013," with a network that included twenty-one routes at that time. Ryanair currently dominates Warsaw Modlin Airport with about ninety-six percent of all flights according to Cirium data; however: "On December 1st Wizz Air will return [to Modlin], with two A321neos based there." The airline plans eleven routes from Modlin—including Alghero and Barcelona—and will compete directly with Ryanair on seven routes as Ryanair increases its own presence at this airport.

These changes reflect Wizz Air’s strategy of adjusting capacity based on demand fluctuations and operational challenges while exploring opportunities in both established and emerging markets.
