Citi and American Airlines have introduced a new credit card, the Citi / AAdvantage Globe Mastercard, which is now available to consumers. The launch comes as Citi prepares to become the exclusive issuer of AAdvantage credit cards next year, following Barclays' exit from co-issuing these products.

John LaCosta, Citi's head of cobranded partnerships, outlined the goals for the new card: "One was elevated travel, get people that experience in those premium benefits ... maximize their earning potential to get status quicker with Loyalty Points and provide flexibility around the value we provide," he said.

The Globe Mastercard targets semifrequent American Airlines travelers—those who fly at least quarterly but do not require full Admirals Club membership. The card features a $350 annual fee, positioning it alongside other mid-tier airline cards such as the Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card and United Quest Card.

A key feature is a limited-time welcome bonus of 90,000 miles after spending $5,000 within four months of opening an account. According to The Points Guy’s October 2025 valuations, this bonus is valued at $1,395.

The card offers four Admirals Club passes each calendar year. Each pass is valid for 24 hours and can be used on connecting itineraries to access multiple lounges in one day. Other travel perks include a companion certificate for a round-trip domestic Main Cabin ticket for $99 plus taxes and fees each year, up to $100 in inflight credits per calendar year for food and beverages purchased onboard, free checked bags for the cardholder and up to eight companions on domestic flights, preferred boarding (Group 5), and a Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit of up to $120 every four years.

Cardholders earn 6 AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on eligible AAdvantage Hotels bookings; 3 miles per dollar on eligible American Airlines purchases; 2 miles per dollar at restaurants and on "Rides and Rails" (including taxis and public transit); and 1 mile per dollar on all other purchases. Additionally, after every four eligible American Airlines flights taken with the card, users receive a "Flight Streak" Loyalty Point boost of 5,000 points (up to three times annually).

Other benefits include an annual Splurge Credit (up to $100 per year at select merchants), up to $240 in Turo rental credits annually ($30 per rental up to eight times), no foreign transaction fees, baggage delay coverage, car rental insurance (excluding Turo rentals), trip delay coverage, extended warranty protection, and purchase protection.

Scott Long, American's senior vice president of AAdvantage said: "We think it's a real diverse population of customers that would be excited for this card. It's also this transition to more premium travel experience, available for leisure travelers ... probably flying more than once or twice a year, but doesn't fly 20 or 30 times a year."

Applicants can apply even if they hold other Citi or Barclays cobranded AAdvantage cards. A minimum credit score of 670 is recommended. Citi limits applications to one new card every eight days and two within any 65-day period; total credit lines are capped across all Citi cards.

The Globe Mastercard fills the gap between Citi’s lower-fee Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard ($99 annual fee) with fewer perks and its Executive World Elite Mastercard ($595 annual fee) with full Admirals Club membership.

The introduction of this product highlights Citi’s investment in its partnership with American Airlines ahead of becoming its sole cobranded card issuer next year.
