In September 2025, two Canadian airlines, Air Transat and Flair Airlines, achieved a 0% flight cancellation rate. Both carriers managed to operate all their scheduled flights during the month, an uncommon accomplishment in the commercial aviation industry.

According to data from OAG, Flair Airlines operated 2,226 flights with an on-time performance of 89.1%. Air Transat completed 2,082 flights with an on-time performance of about 77%. While Air Transat's punctuality was lower compared to some peers, both airlines avoided canceling any flights.

These results stand out when compared to major U.S. carriers. Delta Air Lines canceled 0.38% of its flights in September, United Airlines canceled 0.44%, and American Airlines had a cancellation rate of 0.98%. The achievements by Flair and Air Transat are notable given the operational challenges present in large Canadian cities.

Flair operates only Boeing 737 family aircraft, while Air Transat uses Airbus A321LR and Airbus A330 jets. Their relatively simple fleet structures help reduce maintenance issues and crew complexity. Both airlines also use conservative scheduling practices that allow for longer turnaround times between flights—common in leisure markets—which helps them recover more easily from disruptions.

Proactive planning for potential operational problems is cited as a key factor behind these results. Adjustments made before the day of operation can prevent cancellations and keep completion rates high. Operating out of well-managed hub airports also assists with logistics such as spare parts access and crew changes.

Other North American carriers such as Allegiant Air and Breeze Airways also have strong records for low cancellations and good punctuality, though larger carriers face greater challenges due to their scale and network complexity.

Globally, mid-size airlines like Royal Jordanian and Oman Air have also reported zero cancellations recently by maintaining straightforward network structures. Larger international networks like Aeromexico manage impressive reliability despite operating many aircraft.

While low-cost carriers with simplified fleets often achieve higher reliability metrics than legacy global operators, industry experts caution that strong monthly performance does not guarantee future results amid ongoing operational challenges.
