Frontier Airlines has started serving three airports in Virginia for the first time, with its inaugural flight to Richmond from Atlanta on October 17. This new service adds to Frontier's existing flights to Norfolk and Washington Dulles. The Atlanta-Richmond route will operate between two and four times a week, filling a gap left by Southwest Airlines, which previously operated the route until early 2025 after inheriting it from AirTran. Delta remains a key competitor on this route, offering up to eight daily flights.
On October 19, Virgin Atlantic launched its first nonstop service between London Heathrow and Cancun. Although Virgin had previously flown to Cancun from London Gatwick between 2012 and 2019, this marks the first regular nonstop connection between Heathrow and Cancun. The airline will operate three weekly flights using its 258-seat Boeing 787-9 aircraft. When combined with British Airways and TUI’s services from Gatwick, there are now up to 15 weekly departures from London to Cancun.
AirAsia X began operating in Uzbekistan for the first time on October 15 with a new Kuala Lumpur-Tashkent route. Flights run three times weekly using an Airbus A330-300 configured with two classes and 285 seats. AirAsia X joins Uzbekistan Airways and Batik Air Malaysia on this route; Qanot Sharq had planned to start but decided not to proceed.
