LAX closes Terminal 5 for redevelopment as MSC South opens

The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has announced the closure of Terminal 5 to allow for a significant redevelopment. To support ongoing passenger and flight operations during this period, the airport will rely on the newly completed Midfield Satellite Concourse South (MSC South), which extends the West Gates at the Tom Bradley International Terminal, as well as other existing terminals.

MSC South, set to open to the public on October 21, will add more than 150,000 square feet and eight new gates to the airport. The project was completed using the Offsite Construction and Relocation (OCR) technique, which enabled it to be delivered both on time and within budget. The same construction method will be applied to the development of the new Terminal 5.

With Terminal 5 closing, airlines will adjust their operations. JetBlue will move to Terminal 1 starting October 21, Spirit Airlines will relocate to Terminal 2 on October 22, and American Airlines will shift to Terminal 4 beginning October 28.
