Earlier this week, a SkyWest Airlines Embraer E175 operating as American Airlines flight AA6469 returned to Omaha shortly after takeoff due to concerns about a possible attempt to enter the cockpit. The flight, which departed Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska, was en route to Los Angeles International Airport when the incident occurred.

The Federal Aviation Administration stated, "SkyWest flight 6469 landed safely after returning to Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska, around 19:45 local time on Monday, October 20, after declaring an emergency when the pilot could not contact the cabin crew." The incident was later determined to be a false alarm caused by a communication issue between the cockpit and the cabin crew.

According to reports, the aircraft had reached an altitude of 5,000 feet when the pilots heard banging on the cockpit door. The flight attendants, unable to use the intercom system to communicate with the pilots because it had been left on by accident, resorted to knocking on the door. This led the pilots to believe there might be an attempted breach of the cockpit, prompting them to return to Omaha as a precaution.

Upon landing, the pilots initially requested police presence, but after it was clarified that the issue was a miscommunication among staff, the emergency declaration was canceled.

The aircraft involved, registered as N510SY, is one of 265 Embraer E175 regional jets operated by SkyWest Airlines. The plane, just over four years old, has a seating capacity of 76, including 64 economy and 12 business class seats. After spending over four hours on the ground, the flight departed again and arrived in Los Angeles without further incident.
