FedEx has announced an increase of five weekly cargo flights connecting Asia-Pacific markets to Paris, France, aiming to strengthen the reliability of trade routes between Europe and Asia. The company stated that the added flights are intended to help businesses access the European market more quickly and reliably, especially during the peak holiday shipping season at the end of the year.

The new flights will depart from two major hubs: three from FedEx’s Asia Pacific Hub at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and two from its Shanghai International Express and Cargo Hub. All five flights will use B777 freighter aircraft and will connect to the FedEx European Hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. According to FedEx, this move will increase daily average capacity between Asia Pacific and Europe, supporting industries such as e-commerce, manufacturing, high-tech, and retail.

Industry data indicates that air cargo volumes on the Eurasian trade lane have been growing for 30 consecutive months, with August volumes up 13% compared to the previous year. The European Union is recognized as the largest import market for over 100 countries, with Asia-Pacific economies among its fastest-growing suppliers.

Salil Chari, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Customer Experience for FedEx Asia Pacific, said: “The Eurasian economic corridor is one of the fastest-growing commercial channels. This year we surveyed nearly 4,000 customers in Asia, and more than 20% of respondents said they plan to shift their trade focus to Europe in the next 12 months. FedEx is rapidly adjusting and flexibly using our network to create the blueprint for the next wave of opportunities for Asia’s expanding trade ecosystem. By strengthening connections between Asia Pacific and Europe, we are helping businesses respond to market changes, expand their customer base, find growth opportunities, and consolidate their position in global trade.”

With these additions, FedEx now operates 26 weekly flights transporting goods from Asia Pacific to Europe, with shipments reaching major European markets in as little as 48 hours. The company has also enhanced its transport network from northern Vietnam to Europe, aiming to improve trade for Asian importers and exporters. FedEx operates three major air logistics hubs in Europe—Paris, Cologne, and Liège—and has recently opened a global air transit facility in Istanbul to provide faster and more flexible shipping options and help businesses adapt to seasonal demand and supply chain needs.

This expansion underlines FedEx’s commitment to supporting global trade and the ongoing success of businesses in Asia Pacific and other regions.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported that global air cargo demand rose by 4.1% in August 2024 compared to the previous year, indicating continued resilience in the sector (https://www.iata.org/en/pressroom/2024-releases/2024-10-09-01/). Additionally, the European Union remains the world’s largest importer, with Asia-Pacific countries among its fastest-growing suppliers (https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/achievements_en).
