American Airlines has conditionally purchased 100 hydrogen-electric engines from ZeroAvia, targeting regional jets as part of its goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding signed between the two companies in 2022. The engines will generate electricity through hydrogen fuel, producing only water vapor as a byproduct.
In July, 50-seat regional jets are scheduled to operate one in every 15 short-haul flights across the United States. The longest routes range from 2 hours and 27 minutes to 2 hours and 44 minutes in block time, with Houston Intercontinental to Oaxaca being the longest service.
Boeing has reached an agreement to acquire Spirit AeroSystems in an all-stock transaction valued at $4.7 billion, or $37.25 per share. Concurrently, Airbus and Spirit AeroSystems have entered into a separate agreement under which Spirit will divest its Airbus-related sites.

The Dutch Ministry of Defense signed a contract for nine Embraer C-390 Millennium aircraft on Monday at the Farnborough Airshow.
