The Farnborough International Airshow has facilitated more than $500 billion in deals over the past decade, establishing itself as a significant event for both the aerospace industry and the UK. The 2024 show will see major players like Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, and others return. The event is completely sold out, underscoring its continued relevance.

With the Farnborough International Airshow approaching, Simple Flying spoke with Gareth Rogers, Chief Executive Officer at Farnborough Intl Ltd. In an interview, Rogers discussed the show's impact and preparations for this year.

Simple Flying’s Content Manager, Tom Boon, interviewed Rogers about the airshow's significance and what to expect this year. When asked why the airshow is important for the aerospace industry and the UK, Rogers emphasized its global appeal and substantial deals made over the years. He said, "You know, it brings people from around the world; around 70% of the visitors are global, but it demonstrates leadership for the UK. It's a change agent. It kind of powers innovation."

Rogers further noted that approximately $510 billion worth of deals have been finalized at Farnborough over ten years despite one show being canceled: “If you look at the last 10 years... it's $510 billion worth of deals have been done at the Farnborough Airshow.” He also highlighted that much of this investment benefits the UK supply chain.

The 2022 Farnborough International Airshow was subdued due to COVID-19 effects, but expectations are high for 2024. Major industry players such as Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, RTX (formerly Raytheon), GKN Aerospace, and GE Aviation will be present. Besides business deals expected at the event, discussions on key issues like sustainability and urban air regulations will take place.

Rogers addressed misconceptions about aerobatic displays at Farnborough: "The Boeing F-15 display team will perform a clean and dirty display," he said. Additionally, performances by the Royal Danish Air Force are scheduled.

For those assessing Farnborough's importance today: it is completely sold out from an exhibitor perspective for the first time ever. Rogers noted that there would likely be increased media presence this year.

The airshow holds significant economic value for the UK by creating high-end manufacturing jobs across various regions such as Northwest England, Midlands, Wales, and Northeast England. With tens of thousands of visitors attending from around the globe each year, it provides substantial economic benefits to these areas.
