Emirates has released a new safety video that emphasizes straightforward safety essentials, departing from the trend of flashy, attention-grabbing productions. The video features Emirates cabin crew and passengers explaining key safety information, fostering a sense of involvement among those onboard.

The video opens with an Emirates flight attendant stating that the briefing will "not have dancers breaking into song, characters from movies, or celebrities trying to be funny." Instead, it aims to provide a clear run-through of safety essentials without resorting to famous actors or elaborate dance sequences. The airline noted, "If you’re expecting dancers, movie stars and singers, we’ve saved that for our inflight entertainment. We take your safety seriously. So here’s our refreshed, no-nonsense safety video for your next Emirates flight."

The video covers standard safety procedures such as stowing bags and fastening seatbelts. It intercuts clips of passengers explaining key parts of the process to create a feeling of collective responsibility for safety. Set entirely in the cabin with minimal artificial enhancements aside from calming music and occasional lens flares, the video is designed to be both informative and engaging.

In contrast to this approach, other airlines have opted for more elaborate productions in their safety videos. For instance, Air India's recent release features Indian folk dancing, while British Airways' effort from last year was similarly extravagant. However, some airlines like Japan Airlines have maintained more understated standards.

Emirates' new safety video is concise at under four minutes long. This is shorter than United's latest video (4 minutes 53 seconds) and significantly briefer than Qantas' high-budget production which runs for 9 minutes 33 seconds.

The Dubai-based carrier recently received seven awards at the SKYTRAX awards including World's Best Inflight Entertainment and Best First Class Airline in the Middle East. Its investment in premium economy also garnered accolades such as Best Middle East Premium Economy Airline and Catering. Emirates’ ICE inflight entertainment system continues to impress, winning best inflight entertainment for the 18th time.
